Should You Use Supplements During Pregnancy?

What you eat during your pregnancy will affect the health your health and that of your unborn baby. There are some supplements that are very helpful to pregnant women and there are others which you should avoid.
Some of the supplements that are helpful during pregnancy include folic acid, calcium, iron and vitamin D supplements. Folic acid supplements are very important as they prevent birth defects. Vitamin D helps in the formation of bones for you and your baby. Iron supplements are important for the production of red blood cells. Calcium supplements are important for the development of the baby’s skeletal system.
Some of the supplements that you should avoid include Vitamin A supplements. Cod liver supplements contain high levels of Vitamin A and should be avoided. Supplements from fish such as swordfish, shark and shellfish are not the best to take while pregnant. Listeria-rich supplements are also not recommended for pregnant women.
