For someone suffering from diabetes, a diet plan is very vital for effective management. Always consult your physician before you begin any new plan of diet and make sure that you eat only foods that are accepted for diabetics and eat only specified amount. Do not skip meals or take a snack in between planned meals. Use a standard measuring cup, a table spoon or a teaspoon to measure all foods to ensure proper portion sizes measure foods after cooking. It’s advisable to bake broil or boil meats instead of frying.
Stick to low calorie and lean foods and fresh fruits and vegetables instead of canned. Always avoid sweets and candy, sugar and honey, pies, and anything prepared with sugar. Avoid high fat or cholesterol foods, and alcoholic beverages.
A standard sample menu that provides 1800 calorie, involves two fruits, one meat, two breads, one milk portion, one fat as well as a free food.
