Filed Under Elder Care, Health Care
Dementia is one of the most common diseases in the elders. In fact, it is not a disease in itself but is a set of symptoms that pertain to other diseases such as schizophrenia. The most troublesome part of the disease is that people suffering from the disease tend to forget things. The dementia can be mild to serious. While mild dementia can be controlled by medicines, the severe one has to be attended personally.
Most of the people suffering from dementia tend to become irritated and frustrated due to the fact that they know they are losing their memory. Under such circumstances, it is recommended that the patients should be provided home care instead of admitting them into any asylum. You need to identify the points that trigger off certain reactions such as aggressiveness etc, while keeping a close eye on them.
The best care for dementia can be provided at home, by the family members. The patients feel very uncomfortable with strangers so it is advisable to keep them in a room that is safe from every aspect. Also, the room of the patient should be located at a point so that you can keep a constant eye on the activities of the patient. Give them all the entertainment items such as TV and Video Games to keep them occupied. Finally, spend some time with the patient over a game that employs more use of brain. This helps in preventing the condition from getting worse
