Whey protein is a mixture of the proteins which are globular and are obtained from “whey” (liquid material which is a byproduct of cheese production) by the isolation method. If study is to be believed then the whey proteins possess anti-inflammatory properties.
The whey protein is available in three forms which are as follows:
Concentrates: they contain low levels of fat and cholesterol but have a large amount of carbohydrates and proteins
Isolates: they are made to remove fat and contain protein in large amount
Hydro slates: they are partially hydrolyzed and can be easily processed. They have a bitter taste as compared to the other forms.
The various effects on whey proteins on health are as follows:
Reduces chances of heart diseases and cancer
Stimulate protein synthesis and help in the process of transcription

This type of protein is slow digesting and can therefore prevent muscle breakdown. Casein proteins are the main proteins that area found in milk. It is found in its natural, raw unused form. Casein proteins occur in three forms. One is calcium caseinate is a common food ingredient and is the lowest quality of the casein proteins. Micellar casein and milk casein isolate are somewhat similar. The only difference is that micellar casein is purely casein while milk protein isolate has micelor casein together with whey.
Casein proteins are crucial in muscle recovery and strength. It is specially recommended to be taken after an intense exercise and weight training. This is possible because it enters the blood stream very slowly and in the process inhibiting protein synthesis and breakdown. Casein proteins should be taken in 2 – 3 servings per day, mostly at night since this is the period which the body stays longest without a protein source.
