Having a baby is probably the most awesome experience for every woman. It is news of great excitement in any family! However in all the anticipation for the baby, let’s not ignore the health of the mother to be. Here are some health tips that expecting women can follow:-

1. Eat properly. Make sure your diet is full of vitamins, minerals and iron. Do not over eat and limit your input of sugar.

2. Avoid taking on too much tension or stress as it will affect both you and the baby. This is the best time of your life, enjoy it!

3. Consult your doctor and ask him to recommend some light exercises. This will help you to stay active.

4. Get adequate sleep and rest. It is necessary for the well being of the baby and you.

5. Make sure that you have your near and dear ones with you during this period. Who else will pamper you and make you feel so special? They are also the ones who will understand and put up with your mood swings.

Well although sometimes bleeding during pregnancy is considered dangerous, but certain times it is normal. In fact when the egg after fertilization implants itself in the uterus, some amount of bleeding is normal. Most of the times there you might witness spots of blood, just like when you are having your periods. In fact some of the times there might be a heavier flow of blood. In fact statistics show that around 20 % of women bleed during pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is also accompanied spotting or bleeding.

If there is slight blood which does not require the need of pad or even a panty liner, it can be qualified as spotting. There is nothing to worry about spotting during pregnancy. Bleeding implies a much heavier flow of blood, just like what you experience during a period.  However if the bleeding is heavy and clotted accompanied with cramps, it might a sign of threatened miscarriage.

You must never smoke or be around people who smoke as it may result in fetal deaths, abortion or pre-term births. Avoid illegal drugs to prevent your child being affected by physical damage like defects in the eyes, facial features, damage to the nervous system and more. Also avoid taking over the counter or prescription drugs, including aspirin, unless your doctor specifically allows you to.

Even if you are fond of hot-dogs, avoiding them during pregnancy is better, as some studies prove. Caffeine in your system should also be kept to a minimum or cut off completely. Also, electric blankets, X-rays, junk food, Vitamin A supplements and water beds should be avoided completely. Fumes from house paints and cleaning products, sauna, hot baths, cats, stress, herpes, microwaves, and the like are also harmful to your baby’s health.

Supplements from fish such as swordfish, shark and shellfish are not the best to take while pregnant. Listeria-rich supplements are also not recommended for pregnant women.

It is advisable to take lots of fruits and juices and minimize the intake of drinks like coffee or soft drinks. This is because too much caffeine might affect the health of both mother and baby and can lead to serious complications. Regular exercise should also complement the nutrition.
